Colossal Squid
February 22, 2007Alert Reader Andrea points out this squid - not giant, gigantic or ginormous - but COLOSSAL. It was caught south of New Zealand, which makes me wonder if it escaped from some filming being done there - like King Kong or Lord of the Rings. I think there was a Colossal Squid in the last part of Return of the King, wasn't there? (Spoilers coming) Yeah, at the end Frodo tries to throw the ring into the fires of Mt. Doom only to be snatched up by a colossal squid. Which I have to tell you is terribly disappointing when you're reading the books as a young boy and you've gotten through all five billion pages only to find out that Frodo is eaten by a squid.
